Almost 2 Years In Since Publishing

It's been a while since I wrote an update in my blog.  I suppose I've been busy with the fifth book and figuring out ways to continue promotion.  It's been past 2 years since I started this series, and time sure has flown by.  I can't say it's because I've been riding the wave of success.  As always, sales and new readers come in modest numbers.  Yet, I at this point, all I care about is finishing my series and telling Iris Lawton's story.

When I tell people that I've written a series of books, usually the response I get is surprise.  Then when I start explaining what the series is about, there's always three different reactions.  One is amazement that I've crafted such an imaginative world.

The other is curiosity.  Given the far out premise and taboo subjects my series touches, it's easy to wonder "what kind of crazy story has this guy written?"  Sometimes I get frustrated, because I want people to look beyond the premise and really understand that at it's heart, Halfkinds is a compelling story about survival for a species that should be dead.

However, by far, the most common reaction I get is apathy.  It's mostly a "oh, that's cool" and then that's that.  My work, something that takes hours and hours and hours of effort, is nothing more than a passing thought.  At first, I used to get a little bummed out.  You would think something you've worked so hard on would garner more enthusiasm.  It doesn't.

Then, I take a step back and realize that people have their own lives, their own accomplishments to carry, and that support comes in many forms.  It could be a wall post, a like, a read, or a "that's cool."  These are the things that I am enthusiastic about.  To know that at least my work is getting recognition in some form, it's a great reward for a struggling writer.

The best feeling is when I've been approached by those who have read it.  I love to talk and talk about my writing, to get people's opinions and start the discussion.  Those who know me know that when I'm passionate about something, I study it, analyze it, and love to talk.  So I guess I'm looking forward to the day when I have more readers and friends to talk to.  Until then, I'll keep churning it out.  Four down, two to go.

Volume 4 Cover Reveal

In terms of design, this shouldn't be much of a surprise if you've been keeping tabs on how the others look like.  Also, like all the other covers, the cover represents a key character in the series.

Volume 1: Contact = Curtis Lawton
Volume 2: Horus = Iris Lawton
Volume 3: Alphas = Silverwolf
Volume 4: North = Lucy

You'll notice that the first letter in each subtitle is also spelling out something... but what?

I'm still int he process of editing, but look for an APRIL release.  I'll know the exact date as it approaches.  As always, thanks to my fans and supporters!

Done With Volume 4's Writing! Cover Coming Soon!

I don't post on this blog too frequently.  I don't want to bombard my readers with info unless it's relevant.  Once in a while, I do like to post things regarding my opinions of some of my favorite shows, books, and movies, but I haven't had the opportunity to do so because I've been using most of my leisure time finishing up Volume 4!

Now I can proudly say the writing is pretty much finished with Volume 4.  Next comes the real challenge, editing.  Well actually, the real challenge is getting people to read my series.  At least with editing, I feel I have more control.

Editing is a tough job.  There's always the paranoia of missing that one grammar mistake or typo.  In the bigger picture, it's even tougher.  I want to write a plot that fits well with the overall series I've crafted.  Sometimes I wonder if I've made Iris make the right decisions.  Sometimes I worry if it'll alienate my fans.  Yet, in the end, I think my last two books will have the perfect endgame that will nicely conclude Iris Lawton's journey.

All I can do is write and promote, the rest is in the hands of my readers.  If you've enjoyed the story so far, tell all your friends and leave a review.  Once again, thanks to everyone for the support!

Volume 4 Progress Report - What's to Come

As you may have noticed, I've been posting a lot less lately simply because my time has been overtaken by writing Volume 4.  I think at this point in writing the series, I'm starting to hit my stride.  I already have the outline of how the series is going to end, but the details that are being filled in are coming out naturally.  I'm very excited for my fans, as I promise to pull no punches heading down the home stretch.  I think the conclusion I have envisioned will be a satisfying one for Iris Lawton's journey.

For those who are caught up to Volume 3: Alphas, I'll offer a few tid bits so that you'll know what's to come for Volume 4:

- Volume 4 will be going back to basics.  While Volumes 2 (Horus) and 3 (Alphas) had a more slow-progressing kind of feel, Volume 4 will be similar to Volume 1 in the pacing.  Expect to see a lot more action breaks.

- Without spoiling Volume 3, I can say that Volume 4 represents a shift in the series that will carry on to the conclusion.  You'll definitely know what the ultimate end game is.

- Volume 4 will take place 10 years after the events of Volume 3.  Overall, the time gap between Volume 1 and Volume 4 will be 31 years.

- As always, expect to see some surprises and familiar faces, especially toward the end

At the pace I'm going, Volume 4 should be completed by mid February.  Then I'll allow an rigorous editing period, and I'm aiming for a April release.  As of now, it's probably 75 percent written.

I'm looking forward to releasing the next installment of Halfkinds, and I truly appreciate the support I've been given.  I told myself when I started, I just wanted to know that there'd be someone who liked my writing.  While I still feel the sky is the limit, knowing that I actually have readers makes me very happy.

Expect a cover reveal soon!
